About Me

Hi All, I have set up this blog for family and friends that want to check that I am alive and for me to put down some stories and photos so that I can look back at my trip. Feel free to read/look as much or as little as you like.

It's been a while since my last post and a lot has happened in that time. We have been on another few roadtrips to the highest vertical mountain in North America, which is Revelstoke. It was a great mountain with plenty of snow fall. We spent most of our time in the north bowl where there are a lot of tree runs.

It was a busy last few weeks at work working 11 days straight. The good news was that after that stretch I only had 3 more shifts before I finished up for good at the restaurant. I had a great time working at the restaurant and met some great people. I hope to get back in the summer for a week and visit everyone.

I was fortunate enough before I left to get a couple more days heli-skiing. Total tally for the winter was one heliboarding day and two heliskiing days. It was a goal of mine when I came to Canada to go heliskiing once. So to go three times for free was amazing and a complete fluke. I was very thankful to all the guides and helicopter pilots when I left.

I hit the road on Monday 26th March for the bright city lights of Vancouver. We could pass missing a few mountain stops on the way so the trip took a few days. We went to Big White, which has one of the best terrain parks in Northern America. We tried a couple more 360 attempts, which mainly gave us more pain than joy. The next day we headed to Sun Peaks, which is one of the largest Resorts in Northern America with 3 hills. It was a great day and we knew some local workers so they showed us around. Final stop was Vancouver where I met up with my old roommate and college mate Harry. After 5 months living in the mountains it was strange driving into a big city.

I should mention that for the last few months we have been getting around in a Van I bought. It is a 1995 brown cheverot Astro Van, which seats a comfortable 8 people. It has been great on the roadtrips and has got us to some great places. The plan is to give it a quick service in Vancouver and travel with it through the states.

After a night in Vancouver at Harry's place I made the long overdue trip to Whistler to visit David and Jacinta. It was perfect timing with 40cm the day before and another 15cm overnight. The 7th Heaven chairlift (Blackcomb Mountain) had not been open the day before so there was 55cm of untracked powder waiting for David and I. We timed it well and were probably in the first 50 people up the chairlift with some of the best inbounds boarding I had done all season. Thanks to Dave and Jay for letting me crash and experience how great Whistler can be.

After a day at Whistler it was back to Vancouver before catching a flight to Las Vegas to meet Harry, Ashcroft and their mate Blocky. Needless to say we had a good time and what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Harry had to go back to work in Vancouver on Monday so there was three of us left that headed on to San Francisco for a couple of more relaxed days. SF is a great city and the CBD reminded us a lot of Melbourne's CBD. We took a boat cruise out to the Golden Gate bridge and a lap around Alcatraz Prison. The next day we headed to a baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. It reminded us a lot of cricket due to the down time in the game just like a 5 day test match. Growing up with cricket we really enjoyed the game with the A's (8) beating the Giants (1) including 3 homeruns.

I am back in Vancouver for now and planning a another trip to Whistler. All is well and I am looking forward to the the roadtrip through the states where I will meet up with a couple of friends. Rough plans at this stage is to be in Dallas at the end of April and from there head through Louisiana, Miami and up the east coast towards New York before starting the summer camp job on 10th June. Hopefully my next post won't be a month away.
